Unprecedented supply chain, environmental and industry challenges combined with economic pressures are driving up freight expenses and degrading service levels for shippers of all sizes, says JDA Software Group Inc.

In recent years companies have turned to advanced Transportation Management Systems (TMS) for more efficient processes and cost savings. Yet the TMS market continues to be underpenetrated as transportation and logistics teams are slowed by internal roadblocks, such as overburdened IT departments and constrained capital budgets, the company says. In response, JDA TMS Managed Services is "a new, cost-effective solution targeted at companies that want to tackle their transportation and logistics challenges but lack the IT and capital resources to do so."

JDA Software discussed the offering at the 2009 Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) annual global conference in Chicago, Sept. 20-23. The company described JDA TMS Managed Services as an "end-to-end solution that can enable companies to leverage the market-leading capabilities in JDA's Transportation & Logistics Management software along with JDA's winning approach to managed services, Software-as-a-Service and hosted deployments."

Results: 8-12 weeks

David Johnston, senior vice president, manufacturing and distribution, JDA Software, said, "Transportation executives are competing with a long line of other business teams all demanding IT resources and capital allotments, which frequently result in delayed TMS initiatives. JDA TMS Managed Services will appeal to a whole new audience of companies that want access to the comprehensive capabilities available in our Transportation & Logistics Management solution."

"While we'll continue to deliver our TMS solutions through traditional, on-premise deployments, JDA TMS Managed Services provides accelerated delivery and ongoing management of our flexible, yet preconfigured offering designed to enable measurable improvements in just eight to 12 weeks," Johnston added.

Leveraging transportation expertise

Based on more than 20 years of transportation expertise and real-world experiences at hundreds of customer sites, JDA Software says JDA TMS Managed Services can:

- Scale to support the simplest regional logistics network to the most complex multi-modal global network;

- Avoid a hefty initial capital investment, the hiring of specialized staff; and

- Decrease costs associated with software, maintenance, network and infrastructure upgrades - leading to a lower total cost of ownership for their IT investment.
