Intelligent partnership: SAP and Teradata create comprehensive BI solution

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 4/28/2009 9:56:00 AM

The SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) will now be available on the Teradata database.
An agreement to make that happen was announced at Teradata Universe, a global user conference held in Istanbul, Turkey the week of April 27.
In announcing the agreement, the two companies said it stemmed largely from requests on the part of customers already using both vendors’ products.
Today, these companies have various databases for their data warehouses, and use different business intelligence (BI) tools to analyze that data. Most have at least one SAP NetWeaver BW data warehouse. The new agreement offers these companies the promise of an integrated end-to-end offering, including everything from data warehouse infrastructure and management to BI tools.
"For companies like ours that leverage massive amounts of information with Teradata and SAP, the promise of tighter integration and closer collaboration is significant," said Joe Zakutney, VP president, Global Applications, The Hershey Company. "Most companies realize that centralized data warehousing is the best approach for BI and analytics, and SAP software running on Teradata is exactly the kind of combination we foresee as a technology advantage in the years ahead."
Through the integration of SAP NetWeaver BW, SAP BusinessObjects software and Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse solutions, customers will be able to consolidate all enterprise information in one place, increasing visibility into detailed information and enabling faster, better decision-making. Customers can reduce the costs of building and running their enterprise data warehouse environments by bringing them all onto one database platform from Teradata.
"CIOs committed to driving greater IT efficiency want to consolidate IT investments across the enterprise," said Henry Morris, senior VP for worldwide software and services research at IDC. "The integration of SAP NetWeaver BW and the Teradata database with SAP BusinessObjects business intelligence tools supports such a consolidation strategy.”
