Forward-looking feedback
An overwhelming interest in tracking emerging applications

It's good to get feedback from readers, especially when both technology markets and communication media are changing so rapidly. In a recent issue, MSI included a response card asking for feedback on our new look. What we got back was not only positive—it reaffirms the need for a magazine that hones in on the intersection of information technology with business management.
We'd like to share some of what we heard. Bill Bitner, vice president and general manager of Rolls-Royce's compressors and turbines operating business unit in Indianapolis, wrote that MSI is a "great source for industry information, new technology, and trends in manufacturing and supply chain management."
A quick call to Bitner confirmed that while he likes the new look, the content of the book is the key draw. "I'm using MSI to update and educate some of the people in our unit about what's coming in terms of technology, e-commerce, lean manufacturing approaches, and better ways of working with our supply base," Bitner says.

Here are a few other comments we liked: "Well done!" wrote Thomas H. Idema, director of information technology at IMO Pump. "Insightful and reflective of the changes taking place all around us. Love the format, but the content is the key selling point."
-
"I stole the magazine from our IT director's desk (with her subsequent permission) due to an article on the cover that caught my eye," notes Diane Spaw, vice president of operations at Morning Sun. "I found the content valuable—thorough, new, and immediately useful in developing a better overview. I signed up for my own copy."

"Very logical flow to the publication," opines Kevin E. Young, a senior vice president with Sony Chemicals Corp. of America. "Use of graphics along with vendor lists allow for easy scanning of articles. Important information can be quickly obtained."

"I applaud the redesign," wrote Carmen J. Bordogna, purchasing manager with Rubbermaid Commercial Products. "[The strategic sourcing cover story] impacts me directly since I'm in procurement and the manner in which buyers and sellers will operate in the immediate future is, without a doubt, a major interest to me and my peers, as well as upper management."
MSI received many other positive responses, so thanks for the feedback. It's encouraging to know that MSI's audience is eager to hear about emerging applications, and how new technologies, rightly applied, can improve operations. I'll be the first to agree that there is a deluge of information out there. MSI will continue to put the pertinent developments in front of you.
