Advancing lean: SYSPRO factory scheduling lends variable sophistication, more user options

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 9/28/2007 9:48:00 AM

Enterprise systems vendor SYSPRO released new options to the SYSPRO Factory Scheduling Software solution, ranging from fairly basic planning board-type scheduling to the optimal in advanced scheduling solutions. These options seek to help factory managers advance Lean manufacturing practices.
SYSPRO Factory Scheduling comprises three products, allowing companies to choose the level of sophistication required.
SYSPRO Graphical Planning Board is a basic finite capacity scheduler with limited rules and features for automatic scheduling. The schedule can be manually manipulated using the graphical Gantt chart view.
SYSPRO Finite Scheduler contains more sophisticated features to schedule a factory. Multiple constraints per operation now can be considered, including machines, tools, and labor, and numerous other variables. Managers can more accurately schedule the factory using transfer batches, sequence-dependent set-up times, preferred resource selections, maximum operation spans, and maximum delay between operations.
SYSPRO Advanced Scheduler enables high-quality scheduling through the use of advanced scheduling rules and the availability of components and raw materials. Factory managers define their own complex scheduling rules using filters, a combination of standard or user-defined advanced rules, and user-defined scripts. Jobs on different bill-of-material levels and stock on hand can now be pegged based on definable rules, thereby ensuring a feasible schedule.
