Gartner analysis: SAS service-parts solution addresses market needs

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 3/17/2008 11:45:00 AM

Stamford, Conn.-based industry analyst firm Gartner has issued a “promising” rating for the Service Parts Optimization application from SAS.  The rating came as part of a Gartner MarketScope report on Service Parts Planning compiled in the fourth quarter of 2007.
SAS, a leading provider of business intelligence (BI) software, was one of 10 vendors evaluated in the report. The Service Parts Optimization solution is one of several manufacturing-oriented out-of-the-box solutions that SAS has developed using its underlying BI and analytics technology.
Gartner said the SAS solution is innovative and reflects a thorough understanding of the needs of companies engaged in the business of aftermarket product service.
"The aftermarket service industry accounts for 25 percent of a manufacturer's annual revenue, and 40 percent to 50 percent of their annual profit," says Tom Roehm, director, SAS Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Practice. "The SAS Service Intelligence suite gives our customers the edge they need to take advantage of the lucrative aftermarket world. SAS' analytical roots allow our most knowledgeable customers to leverage the power of SAS tools through the natural extension of the Service Parts Optimization product. We're pleased that Gartner recognizes what we believe is our strength in this area."
