Infotainment specialist Harman/Becker tunes up global operations with Visiprise MES

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 2/22/2008 8:57:00 AM

Harman/Becker Automotive Systems (Harman/Becker), a division of Harman International, has selected Visiprise Manufacturing as its single, full-service manufacturing execution system (MES) solution.
Harman/Becker has completed initial deployments of the solution at plants in North America and Asia, and plans to expand deployments to other North American electronics facilities.
According to Will Bollinger, director of advanced electronics manufacturing at Harman/Becker, "We concluded that Visiprise Manufacturing met our specific MES requirements. Visiprise Manufacturing allows us to maintain a single system that collects critical manufacturing data, streamlines our quality initiatives, and enhances our visibility into manufacturing operations."
Harman/Becker performed system evaluations based on a list of 88 key MES solution characteristics. One differentiator for Visiprise Manufacturing was the ability to conduct real-time statistical process control across their manufacturing operations. Integration with SAP also was critical to Harman/Becker's decision along with third-party validation.
Harman/Becker also referred to Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association (MESA) reports for an independent analysis.
Successful deployments of Visiprise Manufacturing are reported at Harman/Becker's Asia plants, and at the Farmington Hills, Mich.-based new product introduction (NPI) facility. Future plans include rollouts in their North American electronic facilities, including Harman/Becker's "infotainment" plant in Washington, Mo. (In-Car Entertainment product line); and at its premium sound systems plant in Franklin, Ky.
"Visiprise has built a very strong relationship with Harman/Becker by working closely with them to understand their strategic objectives and to provide a solution that helps meet these objectives," says Sean McCloskey, CEO, Visiprise. "The international adoption of Visiprise Manufacturing is a true testimonial to how, as partners, we can address manufacturing operations and ultimately drive a solid ROI for Harman/Becker."
