The Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Association International (MESA) honored three manufacturers for excellence at its annual conference held Sept 7-10 near Chicago. The projects spanned a range of benefits—not just the production execution system installations commonly associated with MESA over the years.
The three winning organizations—as judged by a panel of industry analysts and MSI Editorial Director Kevin Parker—are listed here.
-
For "Operational Excellence," KLA-Tencor, a San Jose, Calif.-based supplier of high-tech equipment to the semiconductor industry;
-
For "Customer Intimacy," Cybex International, Medway, Mass., a manufacturer of fitness equipment; and
-
For "Product Leadership," Corning Specialty Materials, Corning, N.Y., a manufacturer of advanced materials for the semiconductor industry.
In the last couple of years, MESA has broaden its scope beyond execution, and the awards reflected this shift. For instance, Cybex, which uses applications for sell-side e-commerce and service management from enterprise suite vendor PeopleSoft, Pleasanton, Calif., was honored for its ability to better serve health club facilities and other customers by providing them with Web-based service and parts information.
Even the "operational excellence" category—the one with the most manufacturing execution flavor—featured entrants pursuing enterprise-level goals. John Moore, e-quality program manager for KLA-Tencor, says that the system the company deployed has had significant impact on customer-service levels by speeding up quality-related processes.
