Virtually useful: Video-gaming technology powers next-generation HMI

The video-gaming industry just may be where the most innovative software is being written. That would explain why Invensys Process Systems has borrowed video-gaming technology to create its next-generation human machine interface (HMI), which lets users interact with photorealistic renderings of a plant via stereoscopic goggles and gesture-sensitive handheld devices. When combined with the IPS Dynsim process simulation software, it can create a 3D virtual representation of a production plant in which users can develop, test, and control new production processes.
