Electronic filing cabinets have customer-based benefit

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 4/1/2006 7:00:00 AM

Though we are well into the digital age, the need to manage existing paper is driving interest in electronic filing cabinets. These systems digitize and store documents ranging from invoices to printed email.

Ontario-based paint producer ICI Canadaeliminated nearly 65,000 pages of printed documents every month when it deployed the FileNexus digital filing system from Loris Technologies.ICI also set up online access to invoices for its network of retail outlets, which cut both fax traffic and requests for copies. "That boils down to better customer service," says Lee Fortney, IT director with ICI Canada.

Machine tool maker WeinigUSA, Mooresville, N.C., also improved customer service after installing the Shared Access Filing Environment from Cabinet NG as a repository for sales & service history of thousands of machine tools in use throughout the U.S. WeinigUSA personnel can access complete records from their computers, which makes them "more responsive to customers while saving us time and money chasing down a tool's history," says Dennis Hargan, IT manager.
