Semiconductor manufacturer Atmel, and Ember Corp., a vendor of low-power wireless semiconductor solutions, will deliver an ultralow-power ZigBee semiconductor platform. ZigBee is a wireless, standards-based radio technology for control and sensor applications, and remote network monitoring. The vendors expect to develop one integrated microprocessor, radio, and software solution.
Intermec Technologies will supply passive UHF RFID tags to the Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Coast Guard as part of an Automatic Information Technology RFID initiative to establish asset visibility in the DoD's logistics pipeline.
