Expandable Software offers ERP solution for startups

Software/services package boasts quick implementation

Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 6/1/2001 6:00:00 AM

Startups can now get on the fast track with a new software and services package, according to Santa Clara, Calif.-based Expandable Software, a developer, implementer, and supporter of a Web-enabled enterprise resources planning (ERP) application suite, Expandable's new ERP solution combines its software and services in a package designed specifically for startup companies. The new JumpStart program offers one to 15 user licenses of Expandable's Web and e-commerce-enabled ERP system, as well as training, implementation assistance, and support at a low entry price. "We understand the special needs of startup companies and know how to meet them," says Richard Hardy, an Expandable vice president. "We have a significantly high share of this market and a number of entrepreneurial teams now using our software in their third and fourth successful startups."

John Donovan, Expandable's direct strategic marketing manager, adds the firm's 17-year relationship with the startup community is based on providing cost-effective systems that can be implemented in weeks, not months. According to Expandable, it has an ongoing commitment to forging partnerships with strong third-party solution providers such as Preactor for advanced planning & scheduling functions; InterAct Commerce, for customer relationship management software; Viquity, for Web-based supply chain management capabilities; and Agile Software, for product data management functionality.

Jim Smith, director of finance for Foundry Networks, says several members of the company's management team used Expandable in their previous networking startup and were happy with its performance. "On the financial side, one of the features that I like the most is the ability to slice and dice our revenues any way we want on an impromptu basis," Smith says. "For example, I have recently produced reports that broke out sales by country, state, product line, and customer in just a few minutes."

Expandable Software's Web-enabled ERP suite was developed for the Microsoft SQL server database on Windows NT. It reportedly meets the financial, manufacturing, order management, and e-commerce needs of discrete, repetitive, configure-to-order, and mixed-mode manufacturers.
