Ellison less than fabulous as APICS keynote

Larry Ellison, CEO of database and enterprise apps provider Oracle Corp., was this year's keynote speaker at APICS, held October 7-9 in Las Vegas. Reports indicate his timeworn pitch—single database, single global enterprise system—was less than a hit. Afterwards, attendees—in the main, professionals in the science of production management—wondered aloud whether Ellison was aware that APICS preferred presentations that reflected an understanding of manufacturing, and that were not in their essence "product pitches."
