Oracle trumpets win "over SAP"

Oracle, the second-largest ERP software supplier, cites a recent contract with Packway Industries to use the Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition as proof of the vendor's inroads to the midmarket.
Packway, which makes decorative lighting, chose Oracle over several other software vendors, including SAP.
The company wants to consolidate supply chain processes on a single system after more than two decades of operating with mostly manual, decentralized systems. "We selected Oracle because we needed a versatile applications suite that could provide a clear upgrade path to support our long-term business growth," says K.Y. Fung, managing director, Packway.
Oracle E-Business Suite Special Edition has modules for financials, purchasing, inventory management, order management, manufacturing, and sales force automation. Oracle says the package appeals to midsize companies because it is less expensive and easier to install than the full-blown Oracle E-Business Suite.
Oracle channel partners typically pre-configure portions of the suite. In Packway's case, Hong Kong-based Bechelon Consulting pre-built manufacturing processes and business practices into the E-Business Special Edition to address complex supply chain challenges for deployment at Packway's Hong Kong headquarters, and its manufacturing plant in China.
