Invensys director continues with wireless standards work

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 4/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

Harris (Hesh) Kagan, technology marketing director at Invensys Process Systems, has been elected to a second term on the board of directors of the Wireless Industrial Networking Association (WINA). Kagan directs wireless strategy at Invensys, and is the architect of the company's wireless network approach based on shared access-point technology and common data and security models.

WINA is a coalition of industry organizations, technology suppliers, software developers, and systems integrators working to accelerate wireless solutions adoption. It is behind the ISA SP100 wireless interoperability initiative, and has been pushing for the development of low-power wireless radio devices for sensor mesh networks based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

"This is a particularly exciting time to serve in a leadership role at WINA," says Kagan. "Recent wireless standardization activities have been significant, moving wireless technology from a 'wild west' environment to one that is more civilized and manageable for end users and vendors."
