Acquisitions & Partnerships

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 11/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

BEA jumped into the middleware fray with its acquisition of Connecterra, developer of a Java2 EE-based RFID edge (device) of a network solution. The deal extends the range of BEA infrastructure to integrate RFID and other device data across the enterprise. RFID now joins BEA's growing list of vertical solutions, including both employee and customer self-service, telecommunication solution delivery, and institutional trade management.

SoftBrandsrecently tapped GlobeRangerfor RFID and sensor-based software solutions to enhance SoftBrands' Fourth Shift ERP solution with GlobeRanger's iMotion RFID platform. Minneapolis-based NordicWare, a manufacturer of kitchenware products, is the first Fourth Shift user to deploy an RFID compliance solution based on the platform as it looks to upgrade existing manual operations, increase product-delivery accuracy, and develop automated shipping processes.

Symantec recently purchased WholeSecurity, a vendor of behavior-based security and anti-phishing technology. Phishing, said to be a fast-growing threat to online transactions, requires security solutions to quickly detect malicious code based on the actions and characteristics of each threat, without traditional signatures or patches.
