Rockwell Automation, a Milwaukee-based supplier of industrial automation solutions and factory management software, announces the expansion of its Manufacturing Information Solutions capability with the acquisition of Interwave Technology, an Exton, Pa.-based consulting company that focuses on manufacturing execution systems (MES) and other manufacturing enterprise solutions.
Jonathan Kall, president of Interwave Technology, who will stay on with the company, comments that Interwave will continue to focus on issues such as establishing work-in-process visibility, eliminating manual and paper-based processes, and integrating real-time information between the plant floor and business systems. "Our focus on solution services, rather than any one product, fits perfectly with that of the Rockwell Automation Global Manufacturing Solutions business unit," says Kall.
According to Matt Bauer, Interwave's marketing director, and Don Lazzari, director of marketing for MES solutions at Rockwell, Interwave won't be limited to providing services for Rockwell's applications. "We'll continue to be a multivendor solutions provider," says Bauer. "Our goals as a unit are on services."
Lazzari concurs that Interwave will be able to deliver "multivendor" solutions. "They focus on delivering value around a client's needs, not on hammering a set of products into a preformed shape," says Lazzari, who points to Interwave's Manufacturing Assessment Process as an effective implementation framework for MES.
