Container security gettingmore than standard attention

The number of cargo containers—some 17 million globally—plus the number of entities that own and manage their movement equals nightmarish security for governments and shippers. Part of the problem is lack of standards for solutions. In June, several solution vendors formed the Brussels-based International Container Standards Organization. "The focus is to improve container security by accelerating the adoption of global container security standards," says Connie Higgins, General Electric (GE) spokesperson. GE, Siemens, Mitsubishi, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Unisys are among the founding members.
