Kronos adding functionality to help companies improve employee performance

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 1/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Kronos, a well-known supplier of systems for tracking how much time workers spend on the job, is expanding its product line-up to include solutions that make strategic use of labor-related data.

Recent product additions include a Kronos-developed application that enables detailed recording of all worker activities, and an enhanced set of employee-scheduling tools acquired from a company called AD OPT.

The first application, Workforce Activities, is part of Kronos' flagship Workforce Central suite. "Workforce Activities enables real-time tracking and analysis of a much broader range of functions" than previous Kronos applications, says Shawn O'Brien, Kronos' manufacturing industry manager. "Companies can calculate how efficiently they are completing jobs. They can even determine things like scrap rates and take steps to improve them."

O'Brien says a manufacturer that wanted to reduce the time it took to get products to market used this package to analyze how engineers were spending their time and found that 80 percent of their effort was devoted to products already on the market.

Kronos' acquisition of AD OPT last November netted three sophisticated applications, including one called Shift Logic that ensures the right employees are assigned to jobs based on criteria such as required skills or worker seniority.

Dave Roth, Kronos' director of vertical marketing, says the company's goal is to create the broadest possible set of integrated labor management applications.

"We constantly broaden our portfolio to give companies options to improve performance," says Roth.
