EPCglobal ratifies product code standard

After rigorous field testing, EPCglobal ratified in April the Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) standard that focuses on secure, real-time exchange of RFID data between trading partners. EPCIS’ distributed architecture makes for an efficient medium for data capture, communication, and discovery across the supply chain.

“EPCIS is the most actively explored and tested standard to come out of EPCglobal,” says Mike Meranda, president of EPCglobal North America. “EPCIS is very thin software to connect trading partners and exchange ECP data. It can work in any security environment. Its simplicity is its power.”
EPCglobal is developing product certification testing to be published this summer that will boost adoption and also advance innovation in products leveraging the new standard, Meranda asserts.
