IBM wants email users to march to the penguin

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 7/1/2006 6:00:00 AM

IBM says its Lotus Notes/Domino 7 combination is the hottest-selling version of its workgroup collaboration and email platform ever, and a good percentage of buyers are companies migrating from Microsoft Exchange. Naturally, IBM would like that trend to continue, unveiling its Migrate to the Penguin initiative.

Lotus Notes and Domino now run primarily on the open-source Linux operating system that's associated with the penguin logo. IBM claims to have moved nearly 3,000 customers from Microsoft Exchange and other email and messaging platforms to Lotus Notes and Domino over the past two years. The Penguin program seeks to bolster IBM business partners' Notes and Domino expertise as they develop migration strategies, or build on existing Lotus Notes and Domino environments. IBM also is offering customers a "Try before you buy" deal that consists of a hosted Lotus Notes and Domino environment.
