Freudenberg first: ARAS delivers enterprise open source on Microsoft to EMEA PLM market

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 5/1/2008 10:21:00 AM

Available exclusively on the Microsoft .NET platform, Aras Innovator’s open enterprise service-oriented architecture [SOA] enables companies to deploy quickly while maintaining upgradeability. The Aras Innovator suite has solutions for enterprise Product Life-Cycle Management (PLM); New Product Development & Introduction; and Advanced Product Quality Planning.
The suite enables complete access for unlimited users at no cost. Because there is no charge for the enterprise production-ready software, Aras removes the need for up-front capital and eliminates expensive software licensing requirements for users, modules, and servers.
According to Axel Vondermuehl, manager of PLM and collaboration at Freudenberg FDS, a multinational rollout within FDS for advanced product quality planning (APQP) using the Aras enterprise PLM solution is the first time a companywide standard system has been implemented so quickly and easily.
“As the global corporate standard, Aras will be used at 20 sites across six countries," says Vondermuehl. "The added control of the open model combined with Aras Innovator’s advanced enterprise SOA on Microsoft enables us to increase efficiency through business processes standardization while providing us with greater flexibility than previously possible with conventional systems.”
Ed Miller, president of Ann Arbor, Mich.-based product engineering consulting firm CIMdata, believes companies of all sizes now know the strategic importance of an enterprisewide PLM strategy that helps them achieve better collaboration to drive profitability. "Aras’ open-source model provides a new value proposition for the PLM market, to eliminate software license expenses and up-front capital,” concludes Miller.
