Flexible product management: Apparel-oriented PLM solution produces big efficiency gains

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 11/27/2007 4:50:00 PM

Appleseed’s, a retailer of classic women’s apparel, claims its product design process is 20 percent more efficient after its adoption of a product life-cycle management (PLM) solution tailored for use in  retail and footwear & apparel industries.

Appleseed’s, based in Beverly, Mass., also credits the solution, FlexPLM from PTC, for a reduction in grading formula errors and an overall improvement in product quality.

Kathleen Mitford, VP, vertical market strategy for retail, footwear and apparel, PTC, says FlexPLM can solve the unique, complex issues facing companies in those industries by bringing design and development teams together with an intuitive set of tools that can be easily configured to their specific needs.

According to Mitford, FlexPLM can help retail, footwear & apparel companies with the following tasks:

• Seasonal calendar management;
• Concept management;
• Line planning;
• Product data management;
• BOM & Color management;
• Material management & testing;
• Vendor management & collaboration;
• World class automated workflow; and
• Scalable, secure Web-centric infrastructure

“We selected PTC FlexPLM because it delivers out-of-the box capabilities specifically for the retail, footwear and apparel industry,” says Ron Beard, CIO at Appleseed’s. “Additionally, PTC worked very closely with our teams as a resource partner to create and implement a PLM plan that worked within our budget, avoided extensive customizations, and delivered immediate measurable benefits.”
