MCA asks: Why choose one major ERP partner when you can have two?

By Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 12/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

MCA Solutions has reinvigorated its relationship with Oracle, becoming an authorized reseller in the Oracle Partner Network. That allows MCA to offer Oracle's database technology pre-integrated with MCA's Service Planning Optimization software suite.

For Chief Executive Bob Salvucci, the move takes MCA a step closer to the kind of relationship it has enjoyed with Oracle rival SAP. Selling mainly to the larger enterprise—typically businesses with $15 million to $20 million tied up in spare parts inventories—around two-thirds of MCA's sales are to organizations running SAP, with Oracle shops accounting for most of the remaining third.

“We are an 'endorsed business solution' at SAP,” says Salvucci. “We take care of the integration, and maintain it at each new release, so when SAP ships its version to the customer, we ship ours, and it works.”

MCA Solutions CEO Bob Salvucci says entry to Oracle PartnerNetwork will enable MCA to offer Oracle’s database technology pre-integrated with MCA’s Service Planning Optimization software suite.

In the meantime, the tie-up with Oracle certainly brings the operations of the two companies a little closer, says Salvucci—with particular benefits to midrange customers who lack an enterprisewide licensing deal with Oracle. “We can provide just the extra licenses required to run our solution,” says Salvucci.

In addition, he says, MCA will provide “first-level” technical assistance on the combined MCA service planning optimization/Oracle Database solution, including access to Oracle's Global Support Team for more complex issues.

“[With regard to] SAP, we are the only service planning optimization vendor [SAP] is going to be recommending,” Salvucci concludes. “With Oracle, we think this database tie-up brings us closer to offering that kind of turnkey solution.”
