Simulation cycles: Dassault Systèmes to acquire Engineous Software; partners with Intercim for A&D

By Manufacturing Business Technology Staff -- Manufacturing Business Technology, 6/25/2008 6:00:00 AM

Dassault Systèmes is seeking to buy Engineous Software, a specialist in process automation, integration and optimization. This deal will extend Dassault's SIMULIA simulation life-cycle management solutions on the Dassault V6 IP collaboration platform.
Engineous’ FIPER (Federated Intelligent Product EnviRonment) software comprises a distributed product development infrastructure that allows organizations to access, execute, and reuse design simulation tools and processes—connecting resources within an organization and externally with partners and design teams.
According to Siu Tong, founder of Engineous Software, “Our vision, from the start, has been to define and build solutions for managing and automating simulation activities within the enterprise. Becoming part of Dassault Systemes will allow [us] to play an integral role in the democratization of realistic simulation for companies, their ecosystems, and their customers.”
Originally sponsored by an industry alliance—including Engineous Software, Goodrich, General Electric, OAI, Parker Hannifin and Ohio University—the FIPER project enabled Engineous to commercialize its FIPER product, which streamlines design of engineered products by integrating legacy and best-of-breed analytical and design tools through a Web-enabled environment.
"We have enjoyed considerable success in deploying solutions from both Dassault Systèmes and Engineous as part of our overall digital engineering capability," says Dr. Byungsik Kang, a director of CAE for Hyundai-Kia Motors. "The integration of Engineous and SIMULIA solutions within the open Dassault environment represents an exciting opportunity for CAD/CAE system improvements that we look forward to with great interest as our enterprise digital engineering strategy evolves."
Dassault also reports a new working agreement with Intercim LLC that focuses on the aerospace & defense industry. While integration already exists between Dassault's V5 PLM platform and Intercim manufacturing execution systems (MES), the two vendors will leverage the openness, online content, and creation of the V6 platform, seeking to create a Web-based solution that offers these capabilities:

  • Visibility and traceability to all manufacturing stakeholders of shop-floor execution, with real-time 3D access to the "as-built" product information.

  • Increased reactivity to plant-floor issues with real-time visibility across the extended enterprise of all production assets directly within the 3D production model, and with immediate corrective action validation in the virtual model prior to implementation.

  • Increase knowledge sharing between the shop-floor and product and manufacturing engineering with a common view and understanding of the virtual product and production system.
