Gazprom Upgrades Major Production Assets
Moscow. ">OREANDA-NEWS . October 10, 2008. Sochi witnessed today the opening of the meeting dedicated to the more efficient management of Gazproms major production assets. The meeting is chaired by Vasily Podyuk, Member of the Management Committee and Head of the Gas, Gas Condensate and Oil Production Department, Gazprom. Participating in the meeting are experts of the core business divisions of Gazprom and its subsidiaries: Gazprom VNIIGAZ, Gazprom Central Design Oil Equipment Bureau, NIIgazekonomika, SevKavNIPIgaz, Kubangazprom, Gazprom dobycha Astrakhan, Gazprom dobycha Nadym, Gazprom dobycha Noyabrsk, Gazprom dobycha Orenburg, Gazprom dobycha Urengoy, Gazprom dobycha Yamburg, Gazprom pererabotka, Gazprom podzemremont Orenburg, Gazprom podzemremont Urengoy, Gazprom energo, Gazprom gazobesopasnost, Orgenergogaz.Opening the meeting, Vasily Podyuk emphasized that the growth of Gazproms technical and economic potential was directly dependent on the development of gas production capacities on the basis of major assets. The aggregate performance of assets, their status, technical level and degree of utilization directly influence the hydrocarbon production level. For the purpose of meeting its liabilities for gas supply to Russian and foreign consumers, Gazprom plans to increase gas production within the UGSS area up to 650-670 bcm by 2020. Timely execution of Gazproms large-scale projects with regard to creating new gas production centers in the Yamal offshore, Eastern Siberia and the Far East will enable to secure the scheduled production level.Efficient development of new gas provinces demands optimizing major asset management in order to reduce field operational and maintenance costs. In this context, it is necessary to arrange for major asset management, taking into account lifecycle of fields, development and application of approaches that would help achieve an ideal balance between capital expenditures and replacement of run-down major assets by new ones. Book review: Natural Capitalism by Paul Hawken, Amory B. Lovins & L. Hunter Lovins
Genuine prosperity is not won at the expense of the earth. Just as the foundation of all personal wealth is good health (you have no energy to make your mark if you are sick), so the foundation of global wealth is a healthy natural environment. Prosperity is inherently about wealth and wellbeing that are not won at the expense of other people or things. Real prosperity invokes the 'circle of life'. Natural Capitalism popularised the idea of 'natural capital' that clean air, water and other natural assets are valuable and must be recognised by the accounting discipline, and are not free things to be looted. Yet the book is not a rant against industry and how it is destroying the world. Through copious examples it shows that being 'green' can be financially smart as well as ethically right. The capital that economists forgot The authors note that industrial capitalism has been incredibly successful in marshalling resources and delivering great wealth. But this wealth has come at a great cost to the natural environment. They admit that the cost of raw materials continues to fall and that the actual amount of resources never becomes depleted, thanks to the development of easier ways of finding and extracting metals from the ground and yet, these 'easier' ways also come at a cost. Guest column: Apple's iPhone versus Google's Android versus Nokia's 5800
By Jonathan Li In the latest Interfax guest column, Jonathan Li, managing partner of Asentio Design, reviews the latest touch screen mobile phone user interface designs by Apple, Google and Nokia, all three of which desire to own more of the value chain - from hardware to software and to content distribution. Having designed Motorola, NEC, and E28's touchscreen mobile phones for the past several years, I was excitedly curious to get my hands on the much-hyped iPhone. After six months of usage and discounting the volatile signal strength issue, I commend Apple on creating a platform that is highly usable. The iPhone achieves this through (1) a fast and responsive software system where the speed of the iPhone, especially in processor intensive applications like the photo gallery, sets it apart from many of its predecessors; (2) a touch screen with finger interaction in mind where interaction elements such as buttons and lists fit most human fingers; (3) sexy transitions that add visual aesthetics, but more importantly aids navigation of the interface; (4) placing buttons on the screen to abolish menus which often hide options; and (5) Lyxor Intl Asset Mgt - Net Asset Value(s)
